How I Became a Top Voice Over Coach

When I first stepped behind the mic as a voice actor, I never imagined I’d be a top voice over coach one day, helping others find their voice too.

Recently, I had the chance to share my journey on The Impact Maker’s Journey: From Passion to Profits — a podcast hosted by business coach Wendy Vaughan, who helps coaches grow with purpose. It was such a meaningful experience to reflect on where this voice over coach success story began and how it’s grown beyond anything I expected.

A Voice Born of Necessity and Love

My voice over career started early, rooted in a love for both acting and singing. But things became truly real after my husband was in a head-on car accident. I had young kids at home and suddenly needed to bring in income fast. I already had a home studio where I worked part-time, but then I shifted into high gear by auditioning constantly and rebuilding my career from the ground up.

Thankfully, my husband made a full recovery. But that necessity opened doors I never saw coming. I began coaching for Big Fish Talent after they asked me to help a few of their actors improve their voice work. Word spread. And eventually, the largest pay-to-play voice over platform at the time, Voices.com, asked me to become one of their first expert coaches.

Saying yes changed everything.

Coaching Is My Calling

Today, I coach voice actors, podcasters, content creators, audiobook narrators, business professionals, and people who simply want to use their voice more effectively. I believe every person has something inside them that needs to be expressed and my job is to help them bring that out.

It’s not just about sound quality or vocal tone. It’s about alignment. Who you are must come through your voice in order to truly connect with your listeners.

Helping others find that clarity feels like my dharma, my path. And when someone starts to express themselves fully, it’s more than performance. It’s healing. It relieves anxiety. It gives the body permission to release what it’s been holding.

One Student’s Transformation

One of my favorite coaching stories is about a 15-year-old student who first came to me struggling with severe shyness. School was difficult. Speaking up was a challenge. But we started working together in small steps and week by week, he opened up.

Now? It’s his favorite part of the week. He just landed a role in The Sound of Music, and is proudly, officially… a theatre kid.

Watching that transformation reminded me of my own drama teacher; the one who saw something in me and gave me the space to express it. I now get to offer that same space to others as a top voice over coach.
