A dingy cat for voiceover work

Voiceover Character Development: Become the Cat 🐱

You made it to Week 2 of the Meow Mix Voiceover Challenge – and this one’s about to get weird (in the best way).

Last week, you tackled the cold read and learned how to trust your instincts behind the mic.
This week? You’re leveling up with voiceover character development.

It’s time to stop reading like a human… and start performing like a cat.

From Reader to Character: The Power of Embodiment

In voiceover, character development isn’t just for animation or video games. Even in commercial voiceover, character work can take your reads from solid to standout.

That’s why this week’s challenge is all about embodiment.

Instead of simply delivering the Meow Mix script, you’re going to become the cat.

This Week’s Challenge

You’ll use the same script as last week – but this time, take a totally different approach:

  1. Download the Meow Mix Script

  2. Watch me become the cat

  3. Fully commit to the character – physicality, voice, energy

  4. Record your read and explore what comes up

Remember: Feeling silly is part of the process. That’s usually where the most creative breakthroughs happen.

Why Voiceover Character Development Matters

In a crowded audition pool, character work can be one of the fastest ways to stand out.

When you bring a script to life physically and emotionally, you:

  • Add dimension to your delivery

  • Create a unique point of view

  • Tap into performance instincts you didn’t know you had

  • Deliver reads that sound alive – not rehearsed

That’s what casting directors remember.

You’re doing amazing work – and we’re just getting started!

Have fun. Get weird. Be the cat.
I’ll see you next Tuesday for Week 3.

P.S. This is the exact script I used in a live commercial workshop – and now you get to train with it for free.
