Voice Over Rejection Was the Hardest Part of My Journey
This was hands down the hardest part of my VO journey:
Rejection. After rejection. Followed by… silence.
No feedback.
No “almost.”
Just auditions sent into the void and then nothing.
If you’re a working or aspiring voice actor, you already know how that feels. You pour your heart into every read, take after take, hoping something lands. And when it doesn’t? That doubt creeps in.
You start to wonder if you’re good enough.
If you’ll ever book.
If it’s even worth it.
As an online voice over coach, I’ve had so many students come to me in that exact space. And I always tell them the same thing:
You’re not alone. I’ve been there.
The Journaling Pages That Held My Tears
During one particularly rough season, I started journaling just to cope.
I remember flipping through those pages months later and seeing the warped paper crinkled from tears. That season tested everything in me.
But I kept going.
Not because I was getting a flood of yeses. Actually, far from it.
But because I started doing one tiny thing that shifted how I saw myself.
The Habit That Helped Me Push Through Voice Over Rejection
I bought an old-school wall calendar and pinned it up next to my desk. Every day, I wrote down one win – just one.
Some days it was “nailed an audition.”
Other days it was “went for a walk” or “followed up with a client.”
And sometimes it was simply: “Showed up.”
At first it felt small. But after a couple of weeks, that calendar filled up with proof. Evidence that I was making progress, even without external validation.
That calendar became my lifeline.
It reminded me that success isn’t only about booking.
It’s about momentum, growth, and resilience, even in the quiet seasons.
What I Want You to Know About Voice Over Rejection
If you’re in that in-between space right now – where the auditions are going out but nothing’s coming in – I just want you to know:
You may not be doing anything wrong.
This work is hard. It’s emotional. It will test you.
But it’s also powerful!
Every day you show up and use your voice, you’re building something.
As an online voice over coach, I’ve watched students go from completely stuck to booking regularly, not because they suddenly “got better,” but because they kept going and shifted how they saw themselves.
You can too.
